Fractal geometry and percolation theory have been recently suggested as a new way to look at old problems pharmaceutical technology. In the present study, we wanted to detect the occurence of a fractal pattern in the microscopic image of emulsions and identify possible changes of the fractal dimension due to the loss of stability in the preparation over time. Increase of mean particle size is accompanied by the a reduction in the number of droplets which is reflected by a decrease in the complexity of the image, as demonstrated by a fall in the fractal dimension D. Determination value of D may therefore help to predict the behaviour of emulsions and their stability.
