Abstract

The fundamental problems to be solved in order to take electric cars to success, namely motor efficiency and power and energy storage were solved around the seventies of the nineteenth century, when new dc motors appeared after the contributions of many researchers culminating with the advancements conceived by Werner Siemens (1856 and 1867), Antonio Pacinotti (1860), and Zénobe Gramme (1869). At the same time electromechanical generator made secondary batteries viable and first successful model by Gaston Planté (1859) was actually soon used in a new generation of electrics.
