Abstract
In cast products, the microstructure is strongly dependent on the local solidification and cooling conditions. The variations in microstructure correspond to variations in mechanical behaviour. Data reported in Standards and in literature are often referred to separately cast test bars, and are given for guidance only. In this paper, the analysis of the distribution (i.e. the “mapping”) of microstructural features and of mechanical behaviour in a diecast magnesium steering wheel is presented. The need of carefully considering these aspects in the design stage of components is consequently put into evidence.File in questo prodotto:
