This paper presents the results of the European Community research project ADA, Advanced Distributed Architecture for Telemonitoring Services. The project main purpose is to provide a framework for the development of a distributed sensor network. Main elements of the system architecture are identified and their functions are discussed. An outline of a possible implementation based on the Jini(TM) technology is provided.
