Abstract

Clothes can be seen as a ‘preventive defence mechanism’, but they are also the ‘shell of sociality’, they are the social skin that allows each individual to show off, but also to hide. Being ‘feminine’ means highlighting some parts of the body by wearing certain types of clothes. Being ‘masculine’, on the other hand, means highlighting physical strength and handsomeness. These concepts are studied through the accounts of university students who describe their clothing.
