Abstract

Power line generated magnetic fields are determined by a number of electrical and physical factors, some of them characterized by statistical variations difficult to predict. The non-deterministic nature of the magnetic field environment of power lines may be suitably accounted for with the aid of probabilistic models based on the Monte Carlo method. A computer program has been developed by the authors, which combines a detail modeling of the power lines with a statistical section that allows to compute at any point in space the magnetic field probability distribution given the frequency distributions of the influencing parameters. The nature and the role played by the variation of each of the influencing factors (short and long term current fluctuations and variation of ambient parameters) are discussed
