The article deals with Apollonius of Tyana as a guru in Philostratus’ Life : he seems to master a wisdom in which the ethical and aesthetic dimensions coincide. He becomes the guru of a sophia which is not confined to the logos but achieves its own special fulfilment in the ascetic and enacting dimension which bears on phantasia.
