The paper describes stitching software based on cross correlation of overlapping regions and matching. Quantitative evaluation of software performance, as a stand alone tool was made by the use of a synthetic image featuring a 2D pattern. The scaling error introduced by the software amounted up to 1% when 63 stitching operations had been performed. The instrument, as a combined system was tested by the use of an artefact with several pitch distances.
