The chapter focuses on the relationship between consumption composition, growth and distribution. It argues that only by focusing on investment and innovative investment in particular, can the issue of changes in consumption, both as a structure of expenditure and commodity-based forms of needs satisfaction, become fully relevant for the study of growth. At the same time that allows for an analysis of change in consumption patterns well beyond the static approach of consumer theory.

Abstract

The chapter focuses on the relationship between consumption composition, growth and distribution. It argues that only by focusing on investment and innovative investment in particular, can the issue of changes in consumption, both as a structure of expenditure and commodity-based forms of needs satisfaction, become fully relevant for the study of growth. At the same time that allows for an analysis of change in consumption patterns well beyond the static approach of consumer theory.
