Abstract

Catalysis by sol-gel doped materials often leads to better selectivity and efficiency, compared both to other catalytic solids obtained by traditional support impregnation methods and even to catalytic species in solution. We explore the structural reasons originating the superior performance of many sol-gel catalysts and show how the (controllable) structural properties dictate the unique behaviour of these functional materials.
