The paper deals with multimedia synchronization issues for recording and playback of multiple audio and video streams .The Department of Information Engineering developed a distance learning platform which manages a set of independent audio video sources transmitted each in a separate multimedia IP stream: teacher’s audio, teacher's video, teacher's document camera, teacher's notebook desktop and remote classrooms videos. Remote classrooms can participate to the lessons, they can ask for a question. All of these streams need to be digitally recorded for offline playback. The aim is to create a system to completely record a lesson in video-conference, in such a way that: 1) the lesson can be reproduced as it was held 2) the user can choose which streams to be shown 3) post-production is allowed. During a playback of a recorded lesson a student always needs to hear the audio stream but he may choose one or more of the recorded video streams (among all of the selectable streams). The student has the possibility to change at any moment the visualized video streams. In particular the new video stream has to be synchronized with the current played audio and video.
