This article analyses the rhetoric of John Miton's masque Comus. The masque is first set in its historical and literary context, and the occasion of its first staging is described. Then, two select passages of Milton's Comus are analysed from the point of view of lexical choices, offering a statistical analysis of types and tokens and drawing a description of its rhetorical construction from recurrent semantic patterns.
