The paper briefly describes the role of a statistician in a telecommunication company. We present quickly the big amount of data that an analyst in a company of that sector can use, and some of the topics he is asked to work on. In particular we present a project aimed to derive accurate predictive models of attrition for the population of customers. In that project we will see how that attrition is together a statistical and a business problem: we are not looking just for a good model, but also an interpretation of data that help to better understand customers.
