This volume explores the language of newspapers within a discourse analysis and systemic functional grammar frame. The aim is to recognise and understand the some basic linguistic strategies of newspaper reporting, how these strategies may be consciously or unconsciously adopted by the reporter, and how public opinion could be constructed and/or influenced by these strategies. In particular, the book discusses evaluative language and how it is diffused by looking at rhetoric, voice and authorial stance.
