Kurtatsch is one of the few Late Bronze Age copper-producing sites in the Italian Alps, and the remains show more similarities with the earlier sites than those dated as Final Bronze Age, Laugen culture, where there is the characteristic presence of “plattenschlacken”, or platy slags, which are absent here. The other peculiarity of this site is the presence of tin in some metallic phases inside the slags, and the study also aimed at understanding the origin and the behaviour of the tin in this system.

Abstract

Kurtatsch is one of the few Late Bronze Age copper-producing sites in the Italian Alps, and the remains show more similarities with the earlier sites than those dated as Final Bronze Age, Laugen culture, where there is the characteristic presence of “plattenschlacken”, or platy slags, which are absent here. The other peculiarity of this site is the presence of tin in some metallic phases inside the slags, and the study also aimed at understanding the origin and the behaviour of the tin in this system.
