The aim of the present study is twofold: to extend literature on MFI’s social performance and to investigate factors which drive access to microcredit and long term relationship banking. This study is based on primary data collected by in-house interviews of a Cambodian MFI’s random selected borrowers. Progress out of Poverty Index™ for Cambodia shows a very low likelihood that estimated poverty is below the national poverty line, steady over a period of six months and equal among male and female borrowers. Loan cycles are strongly positively related with the age of the borrower and negatively related with a female gender. The amount borrowed is positive related with real estates value, even if assets do not formally back loans. Despite the general wisdom microcredit is targeted to the “poorest among the poor people”, this is completely consistent with a sound and safe (micro)banking activity, aimed to sustainable results.

Abstract
Despite the general wisdom microcredit is targeted to the “poorest among the poor people”, this is completely consistent with a sound and safe (micro)banking activity, aimed to sustainable results.Pubblicazioni consigliate
