The volume represents the outcome of a national research project and of a related international conference. It aims at demonstrating how the 1970s represented a turning period in the history of the European continent. They marked the end of the post-war era and the beginning of the contemporary period. In the volumes various topics are examined: the European integration, the East-West relationship, the role of new international actors, the North-South relationship, the case of Southern Europe. Most contributions are based on archival unpublished material as well as on the most recent historical contributions. It offers new interpretations and points out the relatiionship between the developments in the old continent and the wider international context.
