This paper looks at the role of culture in language teaching and the development of intercultural learning in foreign language education in both the US and in Italy making reference to the US National Standards for Foreign Language Education and the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Language Teaching. It then focuses on an online intercultural project between Dickinson University in the US and Padova Univesity in Italy, Confronti.
