This paper describes the implementation of two alternative dynamic process models of equilibrium traffic signal setting. Based on numerical experiments performed on a simple network, the two approaches are compared against each other, as well as against the conventional, equilibrium-based iterative optimization and assignment method. The main conclusion emerging from this study is that the tested methods always yield the same mutually consistent solution, provided that convergence to a fixed point does occur. Convergence rates, however, are seen to differ widely across the three approaches.

Abstract
This paper describes the implementation of two alternative dynamic process models of equilibrium traffic signal setting. Based on numerical experiments performed on a simple network, the two approaches are compared against each other, as well as against the conventional, equilibrium-based iterative optimization and assignment method. The main conclusion emerging from this study is that the tested methods always yield the same mutually consistent solution, provided that convergence to a fixed point does occur. Convergence rates, however, are seen to differ widely across the three approaches.File in questo prodotto:
