Background: This papers presents a longitudinal study of the development of family interactions from pregnancy to the first 9th months baby. The research has two main aims: a) to investigate the applicability of LTP in Italian context; b) to study the development of infants’ interactions and the patterns of stability and change during the first year of infants’ life. Methods: The participants consisted of 70 non referred primiparous families. We used the Lausanne Trilogue Play (LTP, Fivaz-Depeursinge, Corboz-Warnery 2000) an observational procedure to evaluate the development of interactive competences of families. Families played an interaction with a doll at 7th month of pregnancy, and then played with the child at 4 and 9 months. Results: a) a good inter-rater reliability in Italian context; b) there is no stability of family interactions from pregnancy to the first 9th months. The multilevel analisys show a linear relation between time and the families interactions: there is a improvement of 2,35 point. Conclusions: The results show: yet in the early months baby you can observe the development of interactive ways in which the infants simultaneously involved with two partners. During first 9th months the development of family interactions increase in a homogeneus way: this result can be considered like a common model in the development family interactions.
