The problem of detecting the existence, position and shape of local variations in the elastic properties of a continuous medium from vibration tests is here considered. We propose a Kalman filtering technique which detects the changes induced in the propagation of waves by such material coefficients variations, and reconstruct their position and shape. Numerical simulations show the effectiveness of this approach.

Abstract
