The preliminary study on floor mortars from three rooms of the Roman complex of Neroniana Str. (Montegrotto Terme – Padova, north-eastern Italy) allowed to characterise the used raw material and to define distinctive criteria for different preparation technique of mortars. The authors identified different building phases, which permitted to chronologically correlate some of the studied rooms and resulted to be independent from the stylistic features of opus sectile and mosaic flooring decorations, used as archaeological dating method.
