Here we present the result of an archaeometrical study on mortars, plasters, floors and paintings from the Temple of Venus (south-western Pompeii). The research focused on the characterization of building materials and definition of relationships of the different mixture with age and/or functionality of the building structures. Archaeometrical studies showed that all materials have a complex micro-stratigraphy, the usage of various mixture and raw materials essentially of local provenance. According to the analytical re sults, pictorial layers were produced using a limited palette of inorganic and organic pigments, and a fresco painting technique.
