Interference effects of Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) on Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are here investigated. In particular, the performance of a IEEE 802.15.4 WSN upon the varying of some meaningful parameters and in the presence of a near operating IEEE 802.11b WLAN is analyzed. The purpose is to deduce helpful information for network designers, users and standardization committees for optimizing the performance and reliability of a IEEE 802.15.4 WSN when operating in the presence of an interfering WLAN. Experiments are conducted through a proper test system, and different WSN configurations are considered.

Abstract
Interference effects of Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) on Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are here investigated. In particular, the performance of a IEEE 802.15.4 WSN upon the varying of some meaningful parameters and in the presence of a near operating IEEE 802.11b WLAN is analyzed. The purpose is to deduce helpful information for network designers, users and standardization committees for optimizing the performance and reliability of a IEEE 802.15.4 WSN when operating in the presence of an interfering WLAN. Experiments are conducted through a proper test system, and different WSN configurations are considered.File in questo prodotto:
