216 rabbits were used to evaluate the effect of weaning age (21 and 25 d), weaning weight and vegetal fat addition to the starter diet (EE: 2.8 vs 5.8% DM) on growth and carcass and meat quality. Live weight at 42 and 71 d, carcass weight at slaughter, and muscle to bone ratio of hindleg increased as weaning age increased. The reduction of weaning weight impaired growth performance (P<0.001), especially in 21-d-weaned rabbits, and dressing percentage. Fat addition to the starter diet increased live weight at 42 and 71 d (P<0.05) and muscle to bone ratio of hindleg. The experimental treatments did not affect rabbit health.
