. In the paper, the main experiences on the strengthening of historic masonry buildings are shortly described. Repair and strengthening techniques currently applied in Italy, and largely diffused in several seismic areas are discussed in terms of their design, feasibility and execution aspects. Moreover, structural efficiency evaluations are performed on the basis of recent experimental studies, carried out both on laboratory and in situ, and of modelling analyses, based on dynamic identification procedures. In particular, in order to identify the mechanical behaviour of the structures, non destructive dynamic tests supported by numerical modelling are conducted.
