Background: Bronchial hyperresponsiveness in asthma is considered an indirect index of airway inflammation. Occupational asthma due to Obeche wood has been reported by few studies and it may occur without bronchial hyperresponsiveness. It is unknown whether in these cases airway inflammation characteristic of asthma pathology is present. Case report: a 30-year old carpenter presented work-related dyspnea and dry cough few days after the first exposure to obeche dust.Previous respiratory and smoking history was negative. Conclusions. In this case report we showed that bronchial responsiveness to mathacholine exhibits a transient increase after specific challenge. In contrast, airway inflammation characteristic of asthma persists several months after last exposure to Obeche wood dust.
