From inside to outside: a new study of Palladio´s Villas

In Palladio’s Villas studies, the correct representation phase is intended not only as a valid instrument for the emersion of the building’s geometrical-structural specificity, but also as a moment for consideration on and definition of the vast construction typologies to draw upon in a critical and knowledgeable way when considering the planning act. From representation we move on to investigate the problems relating to the analysis and the documentation of architectural assets (supported, when possible, by controls conducted on project drawings and/or historical surveys), employing innovative methods and procedures – on various scales – as listed below:highlighting the aesthetic and stylistic characteristics of the buildings taken into consideration; study of the applications of current technology; definition of the inside and outside geometric structure of the architecture; recognition of expressive and symbolic characteristics. In this investigation the description of architectural space via the configuration of the surfaces, that define it, is of particular importance. Considering architecture as spatial transformation andqualification, its surfaces take on a rather important role, that of interacting with the structure itself and with its evolution.
