This paper considers the performance of Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) sensors because they are widely used for strain measurement in many applications. A proper experimental setup and climatic chamber with a time constant of the order of ten minutes were built to test the sensors. Their performance was evaluated as a function of both stress and temperature and a non-linear finite element analysis was carried out. Preliminary numerical and experimental results confirmed the presence of critical sliding effects between cladding and coating in FBG sensors which cause non-negligible measurement errors.

Abstract
This paper considers the performance of Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) sensors because they are widely used for strain measurement in many applications. A proper experimental setup and climatic chamber with a time constant of the order of ten minutes were built to test the sensors. Their performance was evaluated as a function of both stress and temperature and a non-linear finite element analysis was carried out. Preliminary numerical and experimental results confirmed the presence of critical sliding effects between cladding and coating in FBG sensors which cause non-negligible measurement errors.File in questo prodotto:
