The paper aims to analyse the factors affecting the effectiveness of knowledge sharing in virtual professional communities, under a perspective that combines inter-organisational knowledge management processes with the economic issues of online business. The case of a virtual community of accounting, tax, and legal consultants being built in Italy (ACBGroup) is presented and discussed. Relevant managerial issues of virtual communities are discusses, as well as lessons for their building and governance.
