Abstract— This paper deals with the design of permanent mag- net motors with intrinsic fault–tolerant capability. Redundant solutions and innovative motor figures are presented. Considera- tions on motor operations in presence of fault are also reported. Three–phase short–circuit maximum short–circuit currents and braking torque are investigated. Finally, hints to be used in the design of the motor are given.
