In Italy, since the last five years, many research groups are working to identify indirect markers of illegal administration of sex hormones in beef bovine. The several experiments, the checkings of the breedings, and the experience acquired, have lead us to determine a set of lesions -a single one or mixed - that are directly correlated to the administration of exogenous substances. However, in 2005, different lesions and particularly different mixed features are seen on the histological slices. Instead the “classical” areas of squamous metaplasia, wide areas of severe hypertrophy and hyperplasia of urethral epithelium, varying marked with lectins. In the place of “classical” hypersecretive features, Diffuse microcysts and zonal dilation with altered secretion are remarkable on tubules. Moreover, there is a complete dissociation between urethral and glandular lesions, which is the most peculiar mark of the “new” prostate feature. Further experiments are necessary to understand the cause of this new histological prostate picture.
