The present article describes the development, administration, scoring procedure and sampling of a Reading Span Task assessing the controlled attention component of working memory. This task was standardized on a French speaking population of 775 young and older adults. The task holds satisfactory reliability, validity and sensibility and thus appears to be a reliable tool to measure working memory capacity. The norms were established as a function of participants’ age, gender and socio-cultural level.
