Spatial constraints on social cognition

As a whole, this special issue demonstrates that the interaction we have with the environment shapes our cognition. Spatial boundaries turn into cognitive boundaries and spatial experiences into mental representations. At the theoretical level, the relation between space and cognition is becoming an exciting new field, as it allows the investigation of important aspects of situated cognition. At the empirical level, this line of research covers a vast and varied range of tasks, measures, and effects, as nicely demonstrated by this collection of contributions. At the practical level it has relevant implications for clinical issues and for both interpersonal and mass communication.
