Abstract

The catalytic electrochemical reduction of CO2 has been realized using the Co(salophen) complex in acetonitrile with different supporting electrolytes. In the presence of LiClO4 the Co(I) complex produced at the electrode reacts with CO2 to give the Co(III)(salophen)LiCO2 complex. Reduction of the latter leads to CO and carbonate as main products, with good yield and high turnover number.
