The study of innovation in services has recently benefited from a great number of important contributions (Metcalfe and Miles 2000, Gallouj 2002, Carlsson et al. 2003). There is an increasing effort to take into account the growing importance of immateriality in production (Miles 2000, Gallouj 2000). Our work starts from these premises and is based on the principles of knowledge economy, as outlined in recent developments in the Italian post-industrial academic school tradition (Rullani, 2004): its purpose is to outline the ongoing changes and suggest a new theoretical model to explain the new character of service innovation and its mechanisms.

Abstract
The study of innovation in services has recently benefited from a great number of important contributions (Metcalfe and Miles 2000, Gallouj 2002, Carlsson et al. 2003). There is an increasing effort to take into account the growing importance of immateriality in production (Miles 2000, Gallouj 2000). Our work starts from these premises and is based on the principles of knowledge economy, as outlined in recent developments in the Italian post-industrial academic school tradition (Rullani, 2004): its purpose is to outline the ongoing changes and suggest a new theoretical model to explain the new character of service innovation and its mechanisms.Pubblicazioni consigliate
