Negative-parity states in systems with few particles outside the closed shell are described within a configuration space built on collective fermion pairs and collective particle-hole excitations. The effect of different truncation schemes with respect to the full shell-model calculation is investigated. The interplay of particle-particle and particle-hole degrees of freedom is found particularly significant in the description of octupole states.

Abstract
Negative-parity states in systems with few particles outside the closed shell are described within a configuration space built on collective fermion pairs and collective particle-hole excitations. The effect of different truncation schemes with respect to the full shell-model calculation is investigated. The interplay of particle-particle and particle-hole degrees of freedom is found particularly significant in the description of octupole states.File in questo prodotto:
