Abstract

In coming years only pretreated solid wastes will be disposed in landfills, as a consequence of the recent Italian and European directives, aiming to separate recycling fractions and to reduce impacts from landfilling. Composting from source separated organic fraction, will be promoted in order to produce good quality compost for agronomic uses. Nowadays compost obtained by undifferentiated waste cannot easily be used in agronomic activities, due to great amount of glass, plastics and heavy metals. The present study deals with the possible reuse in environmental applications of compost, mixed with foundry sand and demolition debris. Environmental and geotechnical aspects have been considered.
