Abstract

The properties of resonance CARS spectra and excitation profiles are investigated in the limit of fast pure dephasing. Experimental results for beta-carotene in room temperature solution are presented and compared with similar results we have previously reported for 1,4-dihydroxy-anthraquinone considering thc different aspects of the excited state structure and dynamics of the two systems. It is shown that simple model calculations of the CARS excitation profile are unable to account for the narrow width of the observed peaks.
