The authors briefly discuss the main lesions produced during intensive treatment in 500 patients who died in an Intensive Care Unit during the period Dec. 13, 1971 to Sept. 9, 1974. Special attention is given, both from a clinical and from a pathologic point of view, to 36 cases of pneumothorax induced by automatic respiration.
