Contribution to the study of the acute and chronic intoxication by nicotine [CONTRIBUTO ALLO STUDIO DELLA INTOSSICAZIONE ACUTA E CRONICA DA NICOTINA]

After a brief introduction illustrating the toxic qualities of nicotine, the authors present a very special case of acute intoxication. After expounding the methods of extraction and the gas-chromatographic conditions for the dosage of nicotine, the authors report the values of hematic, urinary and tissue concentration obtained on living and dead patients having a different rate of absorption of nicotine through smoking. Having underlined the usefulness of the gas-chromatographic search of the nicotine in the biological liquids in order to ascertain the previous consumption of cigarettes, art. 171 of the project of the new traffic code is commented upon.
