The determination of a linear system impulse response from input/output measurements is a mathematically ill-posed problem. Constrained least squares is one of the methods to solve it, and requires the optimization of a free regularization parameter. A general optimization criterion is presented for the iterative solution of the identification problem, and shows how it can be modified to deal specifically with the bandlimited case. Simulations and experimental results are presented to support the discussion.

Abstract

The determination of a linear system impulse response from input/output measurements is a mathematically ill-posed problem. Constrained least squares is one of the methods to solve it, and requires the optimization of a free regularization parameter. A general optimization criterion is presented for the iterative solution of the identification problem, and shows how it can be modified to deal specifically with the bandlimited case. Simulations and experimental results are presented to support the discussion.
