The oil produced by pyrolysis of biomass depends strongly on the kind of biomass: resinous materials give a yield of oil higher than that of straw, lucerne or wood. The process and reactor design has been based on the conversion behavior. As a main conclusion it appears that the pyrolysis gas enables the system to save energy because the direct heat exchange between the combustion products of such gas and biomass improves heat balance. The results of the study lead to the conclusion that pyrolysis efficiency is higher than combustion efficiency by a coefficient about 1. 3(with biomass pre-heated system). It follows from our tests that it is possible to decrease strongly the acidity of the oil avoiding the condensation of the water contained in the pyrolysis gas.
