Amber objects and a few small amber fragments, possible wastes of amber crafrsmanship, from the exceptional protohistoric site of Poggiomarino (Naples), have been analysed. Diffuse Reflectance Infrared analyses (DRIFT) afe available for 12 samples. Threc Baltic succinites, 2 ambers of probable Baltic origin (but not succinite), 3 not Baltic ambers and 4 blocks of resin of unknown origin have been identified. These data, together with the ongoing archaeometric study of south Italian amber materials, are extremely important because they seern to disagree with the widespread hypothesis of an exclusive use of Baltic amber in the Italian Peninsula.

Abstract
Amber objects and a few small amber fragments, possible wastes of amber crafrsmanship, from the exceptional protohistoric site of Poggiomarino (Naples), have been analysed. Diffuse Reflectance Infrared analyses (DRIFT) afe available for 12 samples. Threc Baltic succinites, 2 ambers of probable Baltic origin (but not succinite), 3 not Baltic ambers and 4 blocks of resin of unknown origin have been identified. These data, together with the ongoing archaeometric study of south Italian amber materials, are extremely important because they seern to disagree with the widespread hypothesis of an exclusive use of Baltic amber in the Italian Peninsula.Pubblicazioni consigliate
