Digital Image Processing (DIP) is an advanced technique, here applied as a novel tool to investigate vitreous materials. DIP allows the determination of the microstructural and the tcxtural parameters useful to classify these materials. Three main classes have been identified: glass, glassy faience, and faience/DIP is extremely useful even to characterise the textures of faiences, in arder to understand the production techniques.
