A case-control study was carried out to identify factors hampering the eradication of bovine brucellosis in the Veneto Region (Italy). The factors taken into consideration were: type of farm enterprise, herd size, presence of sheep/goats on farm, type of stall, mountain pasture practice, contacts with wild animals, introduction of cattle, contacts with sheep/goats flocks, indirect contacts with other cattle herds. Multivariable logistic regression was applied to verify the effect of the exposure to these factors. The factor resulting more strictly associated with the presence of infecion in cattle farms was the contact with sheep/goat farms (Odds Ratio=3.83: P=0.02).
