The Italian standards UNI CNR 10011 and UNI 8634 on design of steel and aluminium alloy structures, respectively, have been substituted by Eurocode 3 (EN 1993) and Eurocode 9 (EN 1999). Although the fatigue strength data are similarly summarised in both European standards, in the case of aluminium alloys the slope of the fatigue curves are not normalised, differently from the steel structures. In the present work, the methodologies for fatigue design following EN 1993 and EN 1999 standards are presented and analysed. Finally, the possibility to simplify both the Eurocodes is considered, by using the approaches presented in the literature in the last 20 years.
