The 3d hyaluronan based scaffolds were utilized for in-vitro cultures of rat sciatic nerve cells. The hyaluronan derived basic material was a 100% benzyl ester of hyaluronic acid referred to as HYAFF-11 which includes non woven mesh made of 20μm-thick fibers and tubes made of 20μm-thick interwoven fibers. Cell containing biomaterial scaffolds were embedded in OCT, submerged in iso-penane and snap-frozen in liquid nitrogen and the sliced into section of 5 μm. The results show that the HYADD-11 is suitable biomaterial that can support in vitro nerve cell growth in particular several devices of biomaterial were able to facilitate nerve fragment adhesion and the outgrowth of neural cells.
