A versatile low-cost micro particle imaging velocimetry recording system is used to perform fluid velocity measurements in a wide range of flow conditions both inside microchannels and at liquid-solid interfaces by using epifluorescence excitation and total internal reflection excitation, respectively. Preliminary results of fluid flow measurements in microfluidic cells are presented. Measurements of the slip length of water on regular arrays of micrometric channels and on rough surfaces are currently in progress.
