The aim of this work is to build a method that estimates insulin sensitivity from CGM signal and insulin pump delivered in patients with type 1 diabetes in normal daily life conditions, that can be easily implemented in a portable device like CGM systems. Starting from CGM and insulin infusion data, and using subject-specific parameters which are approximated using field-measurable subject characteristics, this invention estimates, for each meal, the insulin sensitivity of the patient by using simple algebra formulas. This invention can potentially be implemented in portable advisory systems on an artificial pancreas architecture, already composed by necessary devices to evaluate this parameter, thus improving the control therapy, by registering insulin sensitivity pattern during the day.
